How to charge a vape safely

So you’ve already nailed steps one and two – 1. buy an e-cigarette, 2. check out V69’s brilliant range of e-liquids – but now you’re onto step 3: how to safely charge your e-cig. It’s one of the most common questions we get, so we’re going to explain exactly how to do it.

Cable compatibility

It may sound simple, but make sure your charger is compatible with your device. Using an incompatible cable can mean that too much current goes into the battery which in turn will cause it to overheat, and eventually, explode. Not good.

Key things to remember when you’re sourcing a charging cable.

  • Resist the temptation to buy from a discount retailer – this won’t save you money in the long run!
  • Always use a compatible charger from the same supplier you bought your vape from – this is how you know it will definitely work

USB or wall socket?

Ah, the age-old question. Most vape kits won’t come with wall socket plugs, but they’re still usually compatible with wall socket adaptors. We recommend getting a smart plug that will do all the hard work for you by adjusting itself to the correct voltage for your device. But smart plugs don’t know everything – to prevent damaging your battery always check the user manual first for information on voltage.

Other vape devices can only be charged from USB ports. We think it’s best to use the USB ports on your laptop or computer, and we never recommend using a phone charger or multi-plug socket/adapter since these are known for overheating if overloaded. Just because we make the hottest e-liquids in the business, doesn’t mean your vape device should be burning up!

How long should I charge it for?

For as long as a piece of string. No, we’re not winding you up, it’s just that different vape batteries have different charging times. Some require an overnight charge, while others have a swanky rapid charge feature that means they’ll be ready in under an hour. While most batteries are protected from overheating, make sure to check how long you can charge your vape so you definitely don’t do any damage.

Watch out for Mother Nature

It probably goes without saying not to leave your battery charger in the rain. But did you know that weather conditions with lots of moisture, heat, and even the cold can affect your battery? Make sure to check your environment before you stick your vape on charge, and always store your device and charging cable away from water, direct sunlight, and high temperatures. Not that it’s ever hot in the UK!
