Is 2% Nicotine A Lot?

There’s always been confusion surrounding the topic of Nicotine, especially with how much nicotine is in a cigarette, and now with the rise in popularity of E-Cigarettes, there stands a fair bit of confusion with how much nicotine is in a vape, and whether certain amounts are considered “high” or “too much”
It also doesn’t help the confusion factor when certain brands will put 20mg and some will put 2% for example, which this blog is all about as I’m going to explain the terminology used to help clear up any questions or confusion you may have, and help you realise that 2% Nicotine really is not a lot, despite what some might say!
Is 2% Nicotine A Lot?
If you’ve looked at a bottle of vape juice or a Disposable Vape, then you would have likely seen a number followed by the letters “mg” after it. The numbers relate to the amount of Nicotine per ml of vape juice that is in either the bottle or the Disposable Vape.
You’ve also probably seen, more commonly on some of the best Disposable Vape brands out there measurements like “2%” and might not quite understand what this means. It’s basically 20mg per ml which is the maximum strength allowed in vape juice according to TPD laws that were set out back in 2016.
Percentages aren’t very commonly used aside from on Disposable Vapes and this is where people get confused, but just think of it as 1% is 10mg per ml, so if you see 2% it means 20mg per ml! So in answer to the question in title here, 2% is the highest strength that can be included in vape juice, I wouldn’t class it as “a lot” but it could be deemed a lot for someone who may have a relatively low tolerance for it if they haven’t previously been a heavy smoker and taking in a lot of Nicotine.
Let me explain about this in a bit more detail, as it’s essential that you choose a strength that’s right for you and isn’t “a lot”
Choosing The Right Nicotine Strength For You
When a person quits smoking, they are likely going to need to utilise some form of Nicotine Replacement Therapy to help make the process of quitting and moving away from cigarettes as easy and stress free as possible.
The reason for this is because when you smoke cigarettes, whether it’s for a short period of time, or a long period of time, there’s a strong likelihood that you’re going to become addicted to Nicotine. This is because it is such a highly addictive chemical, it really doesn’t a lot for an addiction to be formed.
Once this addiction sets in, it’s not an easy thing to beat, but it is achievable especially with the help of some form of Nicotine Replacement Therapy. This is because going the cold turkey method of simply stopping having Nicotine isn’t the most advisable thing to do, because your body can then go into withdrawal, and you’re going to be getting some pretty nasty side effects coming your way which are not pleasant!

You’ll want to choose vape juice that has a mg content relatable to how many cigarettes you previously smoked. I’ll break it down and give my recommendations below;
- 1-10 Cigarettes a Day – 6mg Freebase / 10mg Nicotine Salt
- 11-15 Cigarettes a Day – 12mg Freebase / 10mg Nicotine Salt
- 20+ Cigarettes a Day – 18mg Freebase / 20mg Nicotine Salt
To give context, there’s roughly 1.1-1.8mg of Nicotine per cigarette, which equates to 22mg-36mg Nicotine per pack of cigarettes. So if you’re smoking a pack a day, you’ll be wanting to be getting as close to that mark as possible, which is why I would recommend 20mg/2% for your vape juice.
And when it’s put like that, you’ll see that it really isn’t a lot when you’ve been taking in that much from smoking cigarettes!
